The Dodgers hard a hard time trying to solve Alex White on Sunday, and dropped their series finale at Coors Field 3-2 to the Colorado Rockies, the sixth loss for the Dodgers in their last seven games. Though White walked five and struck out only two Dodgers, be pitched into the seventh inning by inducing a Lucas Harrell-esque 13 ground ball outs and two more infield pop outs.
Pinch-hitter Alex Castellanos hit a ball that was ticketed for right field and a game-tying single with two outs in the seventh inning, but Rockies second baseman D.J. LeMahieu made a fantastic diving grab and threw to first to retire Castellanos and preserve the Rockies' lead.
Dexter Fowler singled to left to open the bottom of the first inning, then stole second base. He advanced to third base on a passed ball, then scored on a groundout to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.
The passed ball for A.J. Ellis was his sixth of the season, tying him with Rockies catcher Wilin Rosario for the National League lead. But Rosario was not quite ready to give up that lead just yet, as he dropped a strike in the top of the third inning, giving the Dodgers runners at second and third base with two outs. But Elian Herrera fouled out to third base to end the inning.
The Dodgers got two of those runs back in the top of the seventh inning when Ellis hit a line drive home run over the left field wall to pull the Dodgers within one run. A walk to Adam Kennedy and a single by Dee Gordon later in the inning set up a rally, but LeMahieu's grab thwarted that rally.
Ellis nearly tied the game with another home run in the ninth inning but his fly ball to left field was caught by Gonzalez on the warning track. Tony Gwynn Jr. followed suit with a fly ball to right field with two outs, but that was also caught on the warning track to end the game.
The Dodgers open up a four-game series in Philadelphia on Monday, with Clayton Kershaw getting the start in the series opener. Vance Worley will be activated from the disabled list to start for the Phillies on Monday.
