Dodgers Have Their Hands Full With Cliff Lee

The Dodgers look for their second straight win in Philadelphia on Tuesday night against the Phillies, which would be an accomplishment in itself. Monday night was the fifth win for the Dodgers in Philadelphia in 19 games since 2008, including the playoffs.

Tuesday night is a battle between two pitchers who have struggled to get wins this year. Chad Billingsley started the year with wins in his first two starts, but since then he is 0-4 with a 5.13 ERA in nine starts, with 24 walks and 45 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings during that span.

Cliff Lee has no wins in eight starts this season, but he is still doing Cliff Lee things. Lee has a 3.00 ERA with 54 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 57 innings. He has gone six innings in all eight starts — and 19 straight starts dating back to last season — and has allowed more than three runs just twice this season. Lee even threw 10 shutout innings on April 18, but is still without a win, thanks largely to the fact that the Phillies have scored 11 total runs while Lee has been in the game this year.

Lee has absolutely dominated the Dodgers, especially since joining the Phillies.

All-Star Game News

Matt Kemp was named captain of the National League team for Home Run Derby on Monday, July 9 at Kauffman Stadium, with defending derby champ Robinson Cano named American League team captain. Both Kemp and Cano will select three other players from their respective league to compete in the event.

The first round of voting results for the starting lineups were released, and Kemp leads all National League players with 1,952,910 votes. Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers is the only major league player with more votes than Kemp, with 2,587,991.

Kemp is bidding to become just the sixth Dodger ever to get voted into the All-Star Game starting lineup in consecutive years, joining Steve Garvey (1974-1975, 1978-1980), Ron Cey (1974-1975), Jimmy Wynn (1974-1975), Davey Lopes (1979-1981), and Mike Piazza (1994-1997).

Carlos Beltran of the St. Louis Cardinals and Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers are second and third among National League outfielders, with Andre Ethier in fourth place. Ethier has 827,262 votes, just over 285,000 votes behind Braun's 1,112,971.

No other Dodgers, not even A.J. Ellis, are in the top five vote getters at their positions.
