Minor League Player of the Day – Jhosue Bermudez - 5 IP, 1 Hit, 0 Runs, 1 BB, 4 K's. I honestly know nothing about Bermudez other than that he is a 6'0" lefty who had a very impressive professional debut. The 19 year old is from Venezuela and is hopefully one of the Latin prospects that the Dodgers signed this off-season.
AAA – Off day
AA – Ethan Martin got rocked in an early morning game on Wednesday as the Lookouts lost to the Generals (Mariners) 7 to 4. Martin was touched up for 7 hits, 5 walks, and 5 runs over 4.2 frames in what turned out to be his 2nd loss of the season. Luis Vasquez and Eammon Portice each gave up a run each in relief, while Red Patterson fired yet another scoreless frame to lower his ERA to 1.36. At the plate Blake Smith went 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Pedro Baez also had two base knocks and connected on a double. Nick Buss stole his 5th base of the season and drove in a run with the team's only other extra base hit.
HiA – C.J. Retherford and Michael Pericht both homered to continue their torrid hot streaks as the Quakes defeated the Ports ( A's) 3 to 2. Both bombs highlighted a 5-hit night for Rancho who were also led by Jonathan Garcia who went 2 for 4. Starter Garrett Gould finally got back on track as he struck out 7 over 5 frames and allowed just 2 runs, while Robert Purpura picked up the win in his first appearance of the season. Scott McGough recorded the save by hurling a pair of shutout innings.
LoA – A Pedro Guerrero fielding error was the difference in this game as it permitted an inside-the-park 3-run homer to occur in the 7th as South Bend (Dbacks) defeated the Loons 5 to 4. Starter Gustavo Gomez gave up 6 hits and 3 walks over 6 innings which resulted in 2 earned runs, and it was Arismendy Ozoria who allowed the inside the park homer in the 7th. At the plate Angelo Songco went deep for the 2nd time year and drove in 3 runs which represented the team's only extra base hit. James Baldwin had a pair of hits to raise his average above .200.
DSL – The DSL Dodgers connected on 14 hits on Wednesday in route to a 5 to 1 win over the Indians. Vladimir Martinez made his first start of the year and went 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Jorky Infante also had 3 hits in the win. Josmar Cordero continued his strong start with 2 hits and 3 RBI's, while catcher Jonathan Linares also connected on two base knocks. On the mound 19 year old starter Jhosue Bermudez remarkably allowed just 1 hit over 5 frames and struck out 4 in his professional debut. A trio of relievers finished off the game and combined to allow just 1 run over 4 frames.
Coming up – All teams return to action on Thursday, and the highlight will be Zach Lee's start for the Quakes. Michael Antonini will take the ball for the Isotopes, while the Loons and Lookouts starter is TBD.
