The Dodgers had Mark Ellis, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier in the lineup for the first time in almost two months. And they won their 19th one run game tonight, 2-1. Don Mattingly was happy to get Belisario and Jansen some work in Arizona even though the Dodgers were behind. Mattingly thinks Jansen pitches better the more he pitches.
Mattingly mentioned that Javy Guerra had a personal issue and it was reported by Dylan Hernandez that Javy Guerra's father had a heart attack this morning and he will undergo open-heart surgery tomorrow. Guerra will leave the team tomorrow. Guerra is likely to go on a leave list when a player finds it necessary to leave the team to attend to a serious illness in his or his spouse's immediate family. A player must miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven games. The team can use another player from its 40-man roster to replace a player on the bereavement list.
Mark Ellis said "we kind of know who we are," in terms of a low-scoring team. Mark added as long as everyone does their job, Matt and Andre will do theirs.
Kershaw said he threw too many pitches tonight. Gave credit to the Padres for getting guys on base.
Kemp said "The second half is important, it is important to start off hot." "I'm going to play as hard as I can."
