Dee Gordon Out Six Weeks With UCL Tear

Dee Gordon couldn't do this today, and he will miss the next six weeks.

In news that was pretty much expected since last night but is still nonetheless disappointing, shortstop Dee Gordon will be headed for surgery Friday on his dislocated right thumb, per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. Gordon, who tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb, will miss six weeks.

That is the second time in a week a UCL tear has brought down a Dodger, with Todd Coffey out for the season and needing Tommy John surgery on his elbow.

The Dodgers will activate Javy Guerra from the disabled list before tonight's game against the Diamondbacks, meaning the bullpen is back to seven pitchers.

Luis Cruz starts Wednesday night, the 13th Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop to bat fifth, but one has to wonder if the Dodgers are willing to go with Cruz as the primary shortstop for six weeks with Gordon out and Justin Sellers still on the disabled list.

Expect shortstop to be among the targets for trade deadline acquisitions for Ned Colletti, if it wasn't already.
