Will all the talk about buying playoff berths, and Yankees West, and homegrown this, and blah blah blah, I wanted to see what kind of a team I could put together with only guys who came up through the Dodgers system. I also wanted to compare them to the current team.
Note: I only included the starting 8 position players, and 4 starters. I skipped relievers & bench players, simply because I got lazy and it was getting hard to assemble an entire team.
I used a very, very simple system to judge: their salary and WAR for this season. This could get a bit complicated if you used overly advanced stats.
What I found was...if the Dodgers had never made a trade ever, they could have produced a team equally as talented as their current one for almost $30,000,000 less. Oh - and that does not include Carl Crawford's contract.
