A.J. Ellis won the Roy Campanella Award, given annually to the Dodger who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership of the late Hall of Fame catcher. Ellis will be presented with the award by Joni Campanella Roan, Campanella's daughter, before Saturday night's game against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.
Ellis, 31, made his first opening day start this season. He leads the Dodgers with 62 walks, and has hit .263/.365/.397 this season, setting new professional career highs with 11 home runs and 122 starts behind the plate.
Ellis is the second catcher to win the award, which has been voted on by uniformed Dodgers personnel since 2006. Russell Martin won the award in 2007. Other winners of the award were Rafael Furcal (2006), James Loney (2008), Juan Pierre (2009), Jamey Carroll (2010), and Matt Kemp (2011).
Wednesday's Pitching Matchup
Aaron Harang looks to even his record on the season, with his sixth attempt at win number 10. He is 0-3 with a 4.62 ERA in his last five starts, with 42 baserunners allowed in 25 1/3 innings. This is his sixth start against the Padres this season, Harang is 1-1 with a 3.64 ERA against San Diego with 11 walks and 30 strikeouts, with 13 of those strikeouts coming Apr. 13 at Dodger Stadium.
Clayton Richard is making his sixth start against the Dodgers this year. He is 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA, with 16 strikeouts and five walks in 32 innings. Both Harang and Richard will have the most starts this season against the Padres and Dodgers, respectively.
Game Time Change
The Dodgers confirmed that next Wednesday's regular season finale, against the San Francisco Giants, will be played at 4:15 p.m. PDT and will be televised by Prime Ticket. The game was originally scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PDT, but changed by MLB as a precaution in case travel is needed for any wild card tiebreaker, which would be on Thursday, Oct. 4.
Also, this is a few days old but Saturday's game against the Rockies, before which Ellis will receive the Campanella Award, is a 6:10 p.m. PDT start and will be televised by Prime Ticket.
