Sandy Koufax rejoins Dodgers organization

Sandy Koufax will be visiting Camelback Ranch more often to work with Dodgers pitchers - Jon SooHoo | LA Dodgers

The Hall of Famer will work with Dodgers pitchers during spring training and consult with the team throughout the year.

The Dodgers have brought back one of the most legendary figures in the history of the franchise, as Sandy Koufax has agreed to rejoin the team as a special advisor to chairman Mark Walter. The Dodgers say Koufax will attend a portion of Spring Training to work with Dodgers’ pitchers and consult with the team throughout the year.

It remains to be seen just how long "a portion" will be for the relatively private Koufax.

"I’m delighted to be back with the Dodgers," Koufax said in a release. "I’m looking forward to spending time with the team during Spring Training and to contributing in any way I can to help make the team a success for the fans of Los Angeles. Some of my most cherished memories came at Dodger Stadium."

Koufax made a brief appearance at Camelback Ranch in 2012, and during his one-day visit he expressed dismay that the Dodgers were brought into bankruptcy during the Frank McCourt ownership.

"You're sad to see it going through this kind of change," Koufax said. "Change is inevitable, but this is not the normal way it happens."

Pitchers and catchers report to camp at Camelback Ranch on Feb. 12.

"The Dodgers are thrilled to have Sandy back with the organization," Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said. "Sandy’s experience and perspective will be invaluable as we endeavor to do everything in our power to bring the city of Los Angeles a World Series champion."

Koufax during his visit last year was asked if Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw had a ceiling.

"How do you make up a ceiling? His only ceiling is time. How long he will play, you don't know. But as far as talent is concerned, no." said Koufax, who also addressed the comparisons between the two southpaws. "If he’s as good as I think he’s going to be, I’m honored."
