Dodgers vs. Giants opening day game set for 1 p.m. on ESPN

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

The Dodgers will open their season on Monday, Apr. 1 at Dodger Stadium against the Giants at 1 p.m. PT, and will be televised on ESPN.

The Dodgers haven't yet set the times for their 2013 home games, but their opening day game details are now known. The Dodgers will host the Giants on Monday, Apr. 1 at Dodger Stadium at 1 p.m. PT, in a game that will be televised on ESPN.

The game is part of a quadruple header on the ESPN family of networks, though it's worth noting that ESPN doesn't have exclusive rights to opening day games and they are subject to local blackouts. Which means Vin Scully will still be broadcasting the game, likely on Prime Ticket, though that hasn't yet been finalized.

Clayton Kershaw in the last two seasons is 9-1 with a 2.26 ERA in 19 day starts, with 146 strikeouts and 28 walks in 139⅓ innings. The Dodgers have won 16 of those 19 starts. (Kershaw hasn't exactly been chopped liver in his other 47 starts of 2011-2012, with a sparkling 2.46 ERA.)

ESPN will open the season with an exclusive broadcast on Sunday night, Mar. 31, with the Astros making their American League debut by hosting the in-state rival Rangers.

Monday's ESPN schedule is as follows (all times PT):

The MLB season starts on a Monday (well, Sunday) and will end on a Sunday for the first time since 2010, after two seasons of Thursday/Friday starts and ending on a Wednesday.
