Dodgers September review: Taking it easy

Lisa Blumenfeld

After losing 12 games combined in July and August, the Dodgers were 12-15 in September.

Here is a look at the final month of the regular season for the Dodgers, in which the Dodgers coasted to the National League West title.

Dodger Batter of September: Hanley Ramirez only started 15 games in month but was amazingly effective in his time on the field. Ramirez hit .370/.462/.704 with five home runs and three doubles, including two home runs in the division-clinching game in Arizona on Sept. 19. He narrowly beat out Juan Uribe, who had a strong finish by hitting .308/.341/.603 with five home runs and six doubles.

Dodger Pitcher of September: Zack Greinke was the man in the season's final month, with seven runs allowed in six starts. He was 2-1 with a 1.75 ERA with 36 strikeouts and seven walks in 36 innings.

September Record: 12-15

Game of the Month: It's hard to pick against Sept. 19 in Phoenix, when the Dodgers clinched the NL West with a 7-6 win over the Diamondbacks. Ramirez had four hits, including two home runs, and A.J. Ellis hit the game-winning homer in the eighth inning.

Pinch hitting: For the month the Dodgers hit just .184/.196/.327 (9-for-49) with two home runs as a pinch hitter.

Runners in Scoring Position: In September, the Dodgers hit .225/.300/.348 with runners in scoring position in 263 plate appearances, with 10 doubles and six home runs.

They had a runner on third base with less than two outs 52 times, and got the runner home 18 times, or 34.6% (the entire NL scored 392 of 808 times, 48.5%).

They had a runner on second base with nobody out 33 times in September, and the runner advanced 14 times, or 42.4% (the entire NL advanced the runner 307 of 582 times, 52.8%).
