Tim Wallach to interview with Mariners, per reports

USA TODAY Sports

A second team has tabbed the Dodgers third base coach as a candidate for their vacant managerial spot.

Dodgers third base coach will continue his busy offseason this week, as he will interview Thursday for the vacant managerial position with the Mariners, per both Jon Heyman of CBS Sports and Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Wallach had his 2014 option exercised by the Dodgers to return as their third base coach on Oct. 22, but this marks the second managerial for Wallach this offseason. He also interviewed in Detroit last Friday for the Tigers' top spot.

Per Heyman, Wallach joins Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon, Padres bench coach Rick Renteria, Giants bench coach Ron Wotus and Athletics bench coach Chip Hale as Mariners candidates. McClendon also interviewed with Detroit.

Wallach also interviewed with the Red Sox last offseason, and did the same with the Brewers after the 2010 season.

Wallach has been the third base coach for the Dodgers for the last three seasons. Before that he managed in Triple-A Albuquerque in 2008-2009, winning Pacific Coast League manager of the year in 2009. He was the hitting coach for the Dodgers in 2004-2005. Wallach also managed in 1998 with Class-A Inland Empire, then again in 2001 in the Angels system at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga.
