Skip Schumaker reported signs with Reds for 2 years

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Pending a physical, Schumaker will return to the National League Central, where he spent eight of his nine MLB seasons.

Another Dodgers free agent reserve has found a new home. Infielder/outfielder Skip Schumaker has agreed to a two-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds per multiple reports, the first by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports on Monday. The deal is pending physical and worth a total of $5 million, per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Schumaker in Cincinnati reunites with general manager Walt Jocketty, who was at the helm in St. Louis when Schumaker was drafted by the Cardinals in the fifth round in 2001.

The exact breakdown of Schumaker's contract isn't known, but like fellow Dodgers reserve and carpool buddy Nick Punto, Schumaker will make more than his previous two-year, $3 million contract that paid him $1.5 million in both 2012 and 2013. Punto, who make $1.5 million in 2013, signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Athletics last Wednesday, including an option for 2015.

Schumaker, who turns 34 in February, hit .263/.332/.332 with 16 doubles and two home runs in 125 games for the Dodgers. He started 34 games at second base in 2013, 17 games in center field, 14 games in left field and eight games in right field. Schumaker started five of the Dodgers' 10 playoff games in center field in place of an injured Andre Ethier, but was just 3-for-19 (.158) with a pair of walks during the postseason.

The Dodgers have 10 free agents remaining: Ricky Nolasco, Juan Uribe, Brian Wilson, J.P. Howell, Mark Ellis, Chris Capuano, Edinson Volquez, Jerry Hairston Jr., Michael Young and Carlos Marmol.
