AFL recap: Dodgers stars don't shine in all star game

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Corey Seager went 0 for 3 and Yimi Garcia allowed a run in the Rising Stars game on Saturday

The AFL West All Stars dominated the East 9 to 2 in Saturday's Rising Stars game, but neither of the two Dodger prospects who participated didn't really contribute to the win.  Starting shortstop Corey Seager was allowed to stay in the game long enough to get 3 at bats, but unfortunately he went hitless.  After flying out to center in his first at bat, Seager came up with the bases loaded and one out in the 3rd inning.  While he was able to plate a run with a groundout, everyone was hoping for much more.  A couple of his teammates would provide the offensive firepower, however, as Stefan Romero (Mariners) and game MVP Brett Nicholas (Rangers) both crushed a pair of homers.

On the mound Twins prospect Alex Meyers got the start and the hard throwing right hander was outstanding as he fired 3 scoreless frames.  During that time Meyers struck out 3, allowed 3 hits, and walked one.  Alex was followed by 7 different relievers, and the only one to allow more than one hit was Dodger prospect Yimi Garcia who pitched the 8th.  A single and a triple plated a run against Garcia who wasn't throwing quite as hard as I expected.  According to the pitching detail Yimi threw his fastball mostly in the low 90's, topping out at 92 mph.  His secondary pitchers were sliders and changeup which were clocked in the low 80's.
