A look back at the 2013 campaign for Carlos Marmol, who was acquired by the Dodgers on July 2.
What went right
The Dodgers acquired Marmol for Matt Guerrier in a deal involving pitchers designated for assignment days earlier, and Los Angeles also got an international bonus slot worth $209,700 in the trade.
Marmol on the mound was pretty classic Marmol with the Dodgers. He put up a 2.53 ERA in 21 games, including scoreless outings in 18 of his last 19 appearances. It was a big improvement over his 5.86 ERA with the Cubs, and his peripherals improved from Chicago as well (FIP from 6.16 to 3.94, xFIP from 4.82 to 4.16).
Marmol struck out 27 in 21⅔ innings with the Dodgers, and opposing batters hit just .187 with a .253 slugging percentage against him.
The Dodgers put Marmol on the NLCS roster and he pitched 3⅔ scoreless innings in two games.
What went wrong
Classic Marmol also means several free passes, and Marmol walked 19 of his 96 batters faced (19.8%) with the Dodgers, and opposing hitters had a .354 on-base percentage against him.
2014 status
Marmol, 31, is a free agent.
