Puzzle solving on wheels? Car Rallye!

I am excited to present you all with a great opportunity to have a night of fun! Anyone who grew up in Southern California may remember a super fun event called a Skill Gimmick Car Rallye! WAIT! Don't stop reading! It has nothing to do with old cars, speed or racing! I believe this is an activity that some of you would find quite enjoyable and really entertaining.

(I know this isn't geographically convenient for many, as it will take place in the North San Fernando Valley, but oh well.)

It is an event that was first put on in the 1960s through the early 2000s that is a kind of puzzle-solving on wheels. You are presented with a course to follow and along the way you are putting together clues and answering questions to find the hidden 'traps'. During the course there will be one or more checkpoints at which you stop. At these checkpoints you may be asked questions or be asked to do something and you have to figure out what you should (or should not ) do, and you are given the answers to previous questions to help you learn and gain skill to do better along the way. You cannot get lost and I can pretty much guarantee you will enjoy yourselves. It is a super fun and challenging - in a pleasant way - to spend a Saturday evening. These rallyes typically take 2-3 hours to complete, are no more than 10-20 total miles, and they end at a restaurant where you can get a bite to eat or have drinks while you read through the explanations of all the 'traps' they played along the way (you'll be surprised how many there are!)

As you can probably tell, the only requirement on your vehicle is that it is driveable.

I participated in these rallyes for over a dozen years - even wrote some - and couldn't be happier to see that they are back (at least for a bit). Join me on Saturday, December 7, 2013 for a rallye titled "Turkey Traps", written by an old friend of ours. You may start the course any time after 7 P.M., with a First-Time workshop at about 6:30 P.M.. Start location is in Mission Hills, at the Bank of America (rear) parking lot at the NE corner of Devonshire and Sepulveda. Entire course will be in the north San Fernando Valley. The finish will be at Casa De Carlos, in Chatsworth, at the NW corner of Devonshire and Mason.

The cost per car is $30 regardless of the number of people in the car. I suggest 2-4 people being the optimum number, but more can work. Compete with or against your friends/significant others. I'm sure we can also get TBLA folks to partner up as well. First-timer workshops will be held before the event (beginning at 630PM) to help teach you what it's all about.

If you are interested, please e-mail me and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. The 'rallye rules' will be given to you ahead of time via the web, so I will need to know in advance if you will be attending.
