Shawn Tolleson hit on elbow, leaves game

The relief pitcher left a game due to injury in Peoria for the second time this spring.

Shawn Tolleson has had bad luck pitching in Peoria this spring. On Friday afternoon against the Padres, Tolleson left the game in the sixth inning after getting hit in his right elbow by a line drive off the bat of Anthony Bass.

Tolleson was pitching his second inning of work on Friday when Bass, a pitcher, lined a pitch off Tolleson and into left center field for a base hit. After a visit from trainers and the coaching staff at the mound, Tolleson exited the game.

Luckily for Tolleson, he appeared to be okay in the locker room after exiting the game, telling Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times, "It should be fine." In addition, no x-rays are planned, per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

It is the second time in 11 days Tolleson has left a game against the Padres in Peoria with an injury.

On Mar. 5, Tolleson felt a pain in his knee when throwing a pitch, and left the game as a precaution. Further tests showed nothing wrong other than mild soreness, and he was back throwing within a few days.

On quirk of the injury was that Luis Cruz, who made the last out of the sixth inning for the Dodgers, also exited with Tolleson, and catcher Wilkin Castillo entered to play third base in a double switch with new pitcher Juan Abreu. Castillo has kind of played all over during his minor league career, including 119 games at third base. Though Castillo only played one game at the hot corner in 2012 with Triple-A Colorado Springs.
