Yasiel Puig injury: Dodgers OF leaves game, is OK

USA TODAY Sports

Puig was holding his left side as he left the game in the fifth inning on Friday against the Reds. But he said he just got the wind knocked out of him.

Dodgers rookie sensation Yasiel Puig injured himself on a line drive to center field on Friday and he left the game against the Reds in the fifth inning. Puig appeared to be holding his left side as he walked off the field.

The play was a ball hit by Brandon Phillips to Puig in center field, but Puig misplayed the ball for an error and went down trying to make the play. Left fielder Jerry Hairston Jr. ran over to Puig and immediately motioned for trainers and manager Don Mattingly to come out to check on Puig.

After a few minutes down on the field, Puig got up and walked off the field under his own power. He was replaced in center field by Matt Angle.

In the clubhouse, Puig said he was fine, and appeared to just have the wind knocked out of him when he hit the ground.

Puig doubled in the fourth inning, making him 1-for-2 on the day. His average actually dropped to .520, with 26 hits in 50 at-bats in the Cactus League. Puig, who has yet to walk, has a .500 on-base percentage and an .860 slugging percentage this spring.
