Adrian Gonzalez scratched after HBP

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Gonzalez was hit by a pitch on Saturday night and was scratched from Sunday's starting lineup, though the injury isn't considered serious.

The Dodgers travel to Phoenix on Sunday to battle the Athletics, but won't have Adrian Gonzalez at first base. Gonzalez was scratched after getting hit by a pitch in the forearm, just above the elbow, in the fourth inning on Saturday night by Jake Peavy of the White Sox.

Gonzalez stayed in the game Saturday night and singled in the fifth inning. Manager Don Mattingly said the injury wasn't serious, and that Gonzalez would likely play on Monday night.

"It's not enough to be on the medical report," Mattingly said. "More than anything it's just swollen today."

Jerry Hairston Jr. was originally slated to play third base on Sunday, but will slide over to first base. Nick Punto will start at third.

Juan Uribe was also given the day off Sunday as his right hamstring is still a little tight. Like Gonzalez, Uribe is expected back on Monday.

Josh Beckett has pitched twice on the back fields in simulated games, but in his three Cactus League games he has pitched just over the equivalent of a complete game, at 9⅓ innings. He has allowed just four hits and one run, on a home run by Shin-Soo Choo, to go along with his 11 strikeouts and three walks.

Carl Crawford will make his second start in left field for the Dodgers on Sunday, and is expected to play five innings in the field.
