2013 Dodgers player profile: Carl Crawford, still a question mark in LF

USA Today Sports

Crawford has 5 years and $102.5M left on his contract as he joins a very well-compensated Dodger outfield

A week from today, the last piece of last year's big trade with Boston will take his first steps on the field in an official game as a Dodger. While there were tweets showing Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto en route to Los Angeles, Carl Crawford was no where to be found as he was recovering from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow.

Once Crawford arrived at Camelback, his recovery has been paced by the Dodger training staff, who at one point shut him down for a week after he experienced some soreness. Since then, he has been taking live hitting, he played DH in a number of major and minor league spring training games.

On last Saturday night, Crawford was in left field for 3 innings (he got no chances) and on Sunday he played 5 innings in left.

For now he remains on track to start in left field on Opening Day and he will be at the top of the lineup trying to ignite both the Dodger's offense and his National League career.

Carl Crawford is active leader in triples with 114, Jose Reyes is second with 111. Crawford needs 5 more to go into the all-time top 100 leaders in triples.

Contact Status

Crawford is in the third year of a seven-year contract ($102.5M remaining), and will earn $20 million in 2013.
