Minor League Player of the Day – Scott Van Slyke (AAA) - 3 for 4, 2 HR's, 1 2B, 3 RBI's, 2 Walks. Van Slyke wins this award for the second time in a three days after another outstanding performance. His batting average actually increased to .625, and after 7 games he has a ridiculous OPS of 1.981.
AAA Game 1 – The Isotopes were swept by the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) in their double header on Wednesday, and in both games Albuquerque fell by the same score of 6 - 3. In this first contest Stephen Fife got roughed up a bit as he gave up 6 hits and 6 runs over 4.2 innings, although only 1 of those runs was earned thanks to a pair of errors by Dee Gordon. Red Patterson shut down Omaha over the final 2.1 innings despite allowing 5 base runners, but the Isotope offense couldn't make up the deficit. The Storm Chaser pitchers had the right idea by walking the red hot Scott Van Slyke twice, but in his other at bat he had a RBI double. Elian Herrera went 2 for 4 but that was it in terms of notable performances.
AAA Game 2 – The story in Albuquerque's second 6 - 3 loss of the day was Ted Lilly's rehab appearance. As Eric already detailed Lilly allowed 5 earned runs over 6 innings, using 90 pitches in the process. Chris Withrow pitched the final inning for the Isotopes and although he allowed a walk and a hit, he got out of the inning unscathed. At the plate Scott Van Slyke continued his torrid hitting with 2 more homers, but he was the only one to do much of anything outside of a Nick Buss triple. Dee Gordon did steal a pair of bases, but is hitting just .120 for the year.
AA – Zach Lee was dealing on Wednesday as he led the Lookouts to a 6 - 2 win over the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs). In his second start of the year Lee allowed 5 hits and 1 run over 7 strong innings, striking out 7 and walking just 1. Outside of the solo homer he gave up Zach also kept the ball on the ground as his groundout to flyout ratio was 10 to 3. The Chattanooga offense did not have an extra base hit in this game, but Chris Jacobs went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Omar Luna also had a pair of singles, while Joc Pederson went 1 for 3 with a sacrifice fly.
HiA – The Quakes finally won by more than one run on Wednesday as they downed the Nuts (A's) 9 to 4. Rancho banged out 16 hits in this game, with 4 of them coming from Noel Cuevas who homered, stole a base, scored 3 runs, and missed the cycle by a double. Ryan Mount also just missed the cycle as he went 3 for 5 with a double and a homer, while O'Koyea Dickson and Chris O'Brien both singled, doubled, and drove in a run. On the mound starter Gustavo Gomez was decent over 4 innings of work, allowing 2 runs but punching out 6. James Campbell hurled two innings of shutout relief, and Pedro Baez pitched a scoreless frame to give him 4 shutout innings for the young season.
LoA – Rained out
Coming up – The Isotopes and Lookouts will play early games on Thursday, and both teams will feature a top prospect on the mound as Matt Magill will throw for Albuquerque and Chris Reed will pitch for Chattanooga. The Quakes will start another solid pitching prospect in Garrett Gould, while Zach Bird and the Loons are hoping to finally beat the weather and get in a game.
