When will the power resurface for Votto and Adrian?

Ezra Shaw

Hopefully for Dodger and Red fans this will be a moot point in a matter of hours/days/weeks but I still find it interesting.

Two of the most consistent home run producers over the last five years have been Joey Votto and Adrian Gonzalez. From 2008 - 2012 Votto has hit 129 home runs. Adrian Gonzalez in the same time frame has hit 152.

Joey Votto was hurt last summer, and came back on Sept 5th. In 105 plate appearances he hit zero home runs. He has zero home runs in 44 plate appearances this year. So in his last 149 plate appearances – Zero Home runs

Adrian Gonzalez came to the Dodgers, and hit 3 home runs in 157 plate appearances. In 2013 he has had 33 plate appearances with no home runs. So in 190 plate appearances he has hit exactly three home runs. One came in his very first at bat so you could say two home runs in his last 156 plate appearances. The other two home runs were against Homer Bailey in the same game.

Combined Votto and Gonzalez have now gone 339 plate appearances and have hit exactly three home runs.

Trends?

In 2012 they hit a combined 32
In 2011 they hit a combined 56
In 2010 they hit a combined 68

Basically Chris Davis hit more runs in four games than the current power hitting first baseman have done in 1/2 a season of at bats.

To put this in even more perspective.

Bronson Arroyo hit a home run on Aug 27th, 2012

Clayton Kershaw hit a home run on April 1st, 2013

Mat Latos hit a home run on on Aug 3rd, 2012

Three pitchers from the Reds and Dodgers have hit a home run since the last time Joey Votto has hit one.
