Dodgers home run leader wins game for Dodgers

USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers won their second straight series on Thursday.

In a game marred by a brawl and possible injury to Zack Greinke, the Dodgers got a boost when their home run leader hit a home run in the eighth inning to give Los Angeles a 3-2 win over the Padres at Petco Park Thursday night in San Diego.

It was the second pinch hit home run for Juan Uribe in his career, with the last coming Sept. 21, 2004 while with the White Sox against the Twins.

The Dodgers are 14-7 at Petco Park since the beginning of 2011 and have not lost a series in San Diego during that span. All-time, the Dodgers are now 42-42 in Petco Park.

Notes

  • Greinke's walk to Jedd Gyorko in the fourth inning was his first free pass issued this season, to his 35th batter faced.
  • Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the first inning, extending his hitting streak against his former club to 12 games. Gonzalez is hitting .442 (23-for-52) against San Diego.
  • Andre Ethier went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, dating back to last season.
  • A.J. Ellis was 3-for-4 with a walk on Thursday night.
  • Nick Hundley, the Padres 29-year-old catcher who batted .157/.219/.245 in 225 plate appearances and was 1-for-17 against the Dodgers in 2012, was 2-for-4 with a double Thursday night and had himself quite a series. In the three games Hundley was 7-for-11 with a home run and two doubles.
  • Greinke's ground out to end the third inning dropped the Dodgers to 0-for-12 with the bases loaded on the season.
