Yesterdays results just proved once again what a jewel the Dodgers have in Clayton Kershaw. While Eric Stephen was pointing out that Clayton has a 2.01 ERA over his last 50 starts, the other side of the story is that Clayton never has a bad game. Okay July 24th, 2010 was a bad game. So rarely instead of never. One bad start over his last 50 starts. One.
Yesterday is seemed that every other Cy Young pretender was lit up. Some just a little but some quite a bit.
The roll call:
2012 NL Cy Young RA Dickey - 4 IP, 10 hits, 7 earned runs
2012 AL Cy Young David Price - 5 IP, 10 hits, 8 earned runs
20 Million dollar Cole Hamels - 5.2 IP, 9 hits, 8 earned runs
Unbeatable Stephen Strasburg - 5.1 IP, 9 hits, 6 earned runs
and best of all:
Matt Cain 3.2 IP, 7 hits, 9 earned runs
I'm not going to do the research but it is possible that five stud pitchers just had the worst outing of their careers all on the same day.
To put this into perspective eight earned runs seems close to the common thread. Clayton has given up a combined seven earned runs in his last nine starts.
