Minor League Player of the Day – Tim Federowicz (AAA) - 4 for 5, 1 HR, 1 2B, 4 RBI's, 2 Runs. FedEx continues to crush the Pacific Coast League, albeit in limited action, as he is now hitting .500 through 8 games with a 1.401 OPS.
AAA – The Isotopes put on a hitting clinic on Tuesday as they defeated the Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) 13 to 7. Albuquerque had 18 hits in this game, with 4 of them coming from Tim Federowicz who drove in 4 and finished a triple shy of the cycle. Rusty Ryal went 3 for 4 with a two bagger, while Alfredo Amezaga had a single, a double, and 3 RBI's. Nick Buss crushed a pinch hit 3 run homer, and starting pitcher Blake Johnson helped his own cause by hitting a two-run shot. On the mound Johnson got through 5 innings while allowing 3 runs, but the win actually went to Red Patterson even though he gave up 3 scores over just 1 frame. Steve Ames pitched a shutout 9th to lower his ERA to 1.13 over 8 innings, although he has been touched up for 10 hits over that span.
AA – Off day
HiA – The Quakes lost on a 10th inning walk-off homer on Tuesday, falling to the Stockton Ports (A's) 6 to 5. Rancho starter Ross Stripling had his worst start of the season as he allowed 6 hits, 3 walks, and 4 runs over just 4 frames, although he did strike out 6 for the 4th consecutive game. After he left the game his bullpen was very solid over the next 5 innings, however, including a couple of shutout innings from newcomer Owen Jones. The good fortune didn't extend to extra innings as Juan Noriega allowed the walk-off home run to the first batter he faced in the 10th. At the dish the Quakes accumulated 11 hits, but only two went for extra bases in Darnell Sweeney's double and Jonathan Garcia's triple. Catcher Pratt Maynard went 2 for 3 with a RBI for the only other offensive highlight.
LoA – The Loons pitching staff was roughed up by the River Bandits on Tuesday as Great Lakes was crushed by Quad Cities (Astros) 17 to 6. Starter Angel Sanchez made it through 5 innings while allowing 7 hits, 3 walks, and 5 runs, then things really got ugly in the 6th when reliever Arismendy Ozoria got touched for 7 runs. Sawil Gonzalez couldn't stop the bleeding in the 7th, so catcher Tyler Ogle had to pull a Skip Shumaker and throw the final 1.1 frames. While Ogle wasn't very successful on the mound as he walked 4 and served up a 2-run homer, he did have a solid day at the plate as Tyler went 2 for 3 with a 2-run homer of his own. Paul Hoenecke's double was the only other extra base hit for the Loons, although Jesmuel Valentin did go 2 for 4 to boost his average to .333.
Coming up – Everyone plays on Wednesday, with Zach Lee and the Lookouts highlighting the day's games. As of the time of this post none of the other teams have announced their starters, although it has been said that Chris Capuano will be making a rehab appearance for the Isotopes.
Minor League Transactions – AAA: As we all know by now, Javy Guerra was called up while Josh Wall returned to the Isotopes. In addition, Alex Castellanos has been placed on the DL with forearm soreness and Ozzie Martinez has been activated. HiA: Pitcher Owen Jones, the Dodgers 2012 19th round pick, has been added to the Quakes roster from extended spring training.
