Dodgers 5/13/13 minor league report - Duke continues to prove he's not a fluke

Scott Elbert fired a perfect inning for the Quakes on Monday - Thearon W. Henderson

Duke von Schamann allowed just 2 hits over 7 innings on Monday while striking out 7 in the Quakes 5 - 1 victory

Minor League Player of the DayDuke von Schamann (HiA) - 7 IP, 2 Hits, 1 Run, 7 K's. Duke set a season low with 2 hits allowed and also matched a season high with 7 K's to win his 5th straight start. While von Schamann had had a couple of rough starts this season, for the most part he has been very effective especially when you consider that he is pitching in the hitter friendly California League.

AAA – The Isotopes made the most of their 6 hits on Monday as they cruised past the 51's (Mets) 5 to 2. Alfredo Amezaga's bases clearing double in the 7th is what ended up winning the game for Albuquerque as it put them ahead for good. Jeremy Moore had the only multi-hit game as he went 2 for 4, while Nick Buss' two bagger was the club's only other extra base hit. On the mound starter Matt Palmer worked around 7 hits and 4 walks over 6 innings to allow just 1 earned run, striking out 3 in the process. From there a trio of relievers on the 40 man roster got the final 9 outs as Josh Wall threw a scoreless 7th, Chris Withrow pitched a hitless 8th, and Steve Ames gave up 2 hits but picked up his 4th save.

AA – Chris Reed had another rough outing on Monday as the Lookouts fell to Pensacola (Reds) 5 to 1. While Chris struck out 6 over 3.1 frames, he also walked 5 batters and allowed 5 hits which resulted in 4 runs. Over his last 3 starts Reed has given up 14 runs over 11 innings. Kyle Cofield was dynamite in relief as he also struck out 6 batters but had much better overall results as he tossed 3.2 innings of no-hit ball to keep his club in the game. Unfortunately the Chattanooga hitters couldn't get much going on at the dish as Chris Jacobs RBI double in the 9th resulted in the team's only run. A few other players had two-baggers, but Yasiel Puig went 0 for 4. Joc Pederson got the night off but still managed to stroke a single as a pinch hitter.

HiA Duke von Schamann threw a gem on Monday as the Quakes 3-hit the Storm (Padres) in a 4 - 1 victory. Duke gave up just 2 hits and 1 run through 7 strong innings, punching out 7 and walking 3. Scott Elbert followed with a perfect inning of relief that included 2 strikeouts, and Owen Jones worked out of a bases loaded jam in the 9th to record the save. On offense Ryan Mount went 2 for 4 with a 2-run homer to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. During that span Mount is hitting an incredible .553 with a 1.601 OPS. Darnell Sweeney drove in the other runs with a 2-run bomb of his own, while O'Koyea Dickson reached base 4 times on two singles and two walks.

LoA – After the Loons blanked the Lugnuts on Sunday, Lansing returned the favor by shutting out Great Lakes 5 to 0. Robbie Garvey and Dashenko Ricardo had the only two hits for the Loons and they were both singles. Starter Ralston Cash struggled as he allowed all 5 runs on 5 hits and 5 walks, although only 2 of those runs were earned because Cash himself made a fielding error. A trio of relievers held the Lugnuts scoreless over the final 3.2 frames, including a perfect inning from Scott Griggs who didn't walk even walk a batter.

Coming up – The Quakes have the day off on Tuesday, but the Isotopes will send Angel Castro to the mound in an morning game. Andres Santiago gets the ball for the Lookouts, while Jharel Cotton will try to continue his success with the Loons.
