Minor League Player of the Day – Red Patterson (AAA) - 4.1 IP, 3 hits, 2 runs, 7 K's. With just one game on Wednesday, and a blowout at that, it was slim pickings for player of the day honors. I'm going with Patterson despite the runs allowed because he gave up just 3 hits and had a season high 7 strikeouts. Overall Patterson has struggled this season with an ERA over 5 and almost as many walks as strikeouts heading into Wednesday's game, but hopefully he can turn it around and get back to the success he had in 2012.
AAA – The Isotopes got pummeled on Wednesday in a 9 - 1 defeat to the Sky Sox (Rockies). After four starts the Aaron Laffey experiment doesn't look so good as the left hander didn't make it through the 3rd inning in this game. Laffey allow 7 hits (including 3 homers) and 7 runs which ballooned his ERA to 7.78. Red Patterson played long reliever in this one and even though he gave up a couple of runs over 4.1 frames, he had some bright spots as he only allowed 3 hits and struck out 7. Chris Withrow also threw out of the bullpen and got a bit lucky as he permitted 4 hits in 1.2 innings but was able to work out of his own jams and at one point struck out three straight batters after loading the bases with nobody out. There wasn't much offense for the Topes in this one as they only had 6 hits. Doubles by Justin Sellers and Elian Herrera accounted for the only extra base hits, while Alex Castellanos went 2 for 4
AA – Off day
HiA – Off day
LoA – Suspended due to rain
Coming up – The Isotopes will send Matt Palmer to the mound in a Thursday matinee, while Ross Stripling will throw for the Lookouts. Garrett Gould will try and continue his impressive streak for the Quakes, and the Loons will finish up their suspended game with Miguel Sulbaran on the mound, then will use a to be determined starter in their second game of the day.
