The Dodgers returned to Dodger Stadium and start a five-game homestand on Friday night, and in the opener of their three-game series against the Cardinals will feature a familiar face in right field. Andre Ethier is back in the lineup for the Dodgers on Friday, batting fifth against St. Louis.
Ethier was benched on Wednesday in Milwaukee against Wily Peralta of the Brewers, a rare non-start for Ethier against a right-handed pitcher. Manager Don Mattingly caused a stir with his pregame comments, saying with his lineup, which included Scott Van Slyke in place of Ethier in right field, he wanted to "put out my most competitive lineup" and one that would "fight the hardest."
The Dodgers are 6-13 in May and have eight games remaining in the month, trying to avoid the worst record in May in franchise history. The Dodgers finished 11-17 in May three times: 1958, 1995, and 2005.
