The moment that Don Mattingly may have saved his job - and the 2013 season for the LA Dodgers.
First of all, let me say that THIS - benching Matt Kemp - is the exact type of leadership that I have been asking to see weeks. Managers are required to make the tough decisions - no matter how much criticism may follow.
Will Matt Kemp respond? Will the team take notice and respond as a whole? It does not matter. The fact is that this is just the type of move that is required in situations like this. Whether or not this works, it is the right thing to do.
More needs to happen, of course. But this is huge. At the time of this post, the game is still going and we may still lose. I contend that the move is bigger than any single game result.
Credit to Don Mattingly for leading.
Let's now hope for some strong leadership to follow from his players.
