The Angels announced on Sunday that their ace Jered Weaver would make his return from the disabled list against the Dodgers on Wednesday night in Anaheim. Here is a look at the starting pitching matchups and TV schedule for the four-game Freeway Series, with two games in Los Angeles and two down south.
Monday, 5:10 p.m. (Prime Ticket, Fox Sports West)
For his second consecutive start, Zack Greinke will face his old team. Greinke started 13 games for the Angels last season before joining the Dodgers in the offseason as a free agent. Greinke hopes Monday goes batter than his last start, when he gave up five runs in four innings in another reunion start against his ex-teammates in Milwaukee. C.J. Wilson has five straight quality starts and a 2.62 ERA in May with 33 strikeouts and 15 walks in 34⅓ innings.
Tuesday, 7:10 p.m. (KCAL, Fox Sports West, ESPN)
Hyun-jin Ryu has four quality starts and a 2.13 ERA in four starts at Dodger Stadium. He faced the Angels twice in spring training, allowing two runs in two innings in his first start then retiring all 12 he faced in Anaheim during the exhibition Freeway Series. Old friend Joe Blanton made 10 starts for the Dodgers last season, and has made 10 starts so far this season for the Angels. With the Dodgers Blanton allowed 82 baserunners and struck out 51. With the Angels, he has given up 108 baserunners and struck out 36.
Karl Ravech, Rick Sutcliffe, and Aaron Boone will call the game for ESPN, with Tim Kurkjian in the dugouts.
Wednesday, 7:05 p.m. (KCAL, Fox Sports West)
As the series moves to Anaheim, Weaver returns after more than seven weeks on the shelf with a fractured left elbow. Weaver is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in his two starts this season. Chris Capuano in one start and two relief appearances on the road has allowed one run in 10 innings this season, with nine strikeouts and a walk. He allowed one run in seven innings in a win in Anaheim last June 23.
Thursday, 7:05 p.m. (KCAL, Fox Sports West)
The series finale features a battle of southpaws. Ted Lilly may or may not be on a pitch count but looks to build off his strong start against St. Louis. Jason Vargas has pitched seven innings or more in three straight starts and in six of his last seven outings, with a 2.47 ERA during that span. Vargas is tied for the American League lead with two complete games this season.
