Minor League Player of the Day – Zach Lee (AA) - 6 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 1 walk, 7 K's. Lee was brilliant on Tuesday as he shut out the opposition over 6 innings and allowed just 2 hits. The strong outing lowered his ERA to 2.67 for the season over 57.1 innings.
AAA – The Isotopes had another big day at the plate on Tuesday as they pounded out 15 hits in a 7 - 2 win over Memphis (Cardinals). Elian Herrera, Rusty Ryal, and Jeremy Moore had 3 hits each, with Ryal connecting on a triple and Moore collecting a double. Alex Castellanos homered to give him 7 bombs on the year, and Tim Federowicz singled and scored 2 runs. On the mound Matt Palmer allowed just 2 hits in start, but he also walked 4 and lasted just 4.1 frames. A trio of relievers finished off the game, including Josh Wall who struck out 3 in his two innings of work.
AA – The Lookouts pitching staff allowed just 3 hits on Tuesday as Chattanooga shutout the BayBears (Dbacks) 1 to 0. Starter Zach Lee was masterful in this game as he only gave up 2 hits in his 6 innings of work, striking out 7 and walking just 1. Hector Nelo followed with a pair of hitless frames, and while Jose Dominguez permitted a couple of base runners in the 9th, he ended up closing out the game to record the save. The Lookouts only had 5 hits themselves in this one, and their only run came in the 2nd when Brian Cavazos-Galvez doubled and then scored on a J.T. Wise single. Joc Pederson went 0 for 3 while Yasiel Puig didn't play in the game.
HiA – Stephen Fife continued the tradition of Dodger pitchers losing in their rehab starts in Rancho as the Quakes fell to the JetHawks (Astros) 10 to 2. Fife allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits in this game, walking 1 and striking out 3 over 4 innings. After Raydel Sanchez threw an inning of relief the normally scheduled starter, Garrett Gould, took over. Gould started off very well as he retired the first 9 batters he faced in a row, but in his 4th inning of work he ran into some trouble and gave up 4 runs. At the dish the only offense highlights were four doubles by the Quakes, with two of them coming from O'Koyea Dickson who drove in the only two runs. Noel Cuevas and Bobby Coyle had the other two-baggers.
LoA – The Loons endured a couple of rain delays on Tuesday to down the Whitecaps (Tigers) 6 to 1. The Great Lakes pitching was outstanding in this game as they combined to throw a 4-hitter. Starter Miguel Sulbaran only threw one inning because of the first rain delay, and when play resumed Zachary Bird took over. As it turned out Bird had his best performance of the year as he did not allow a hit in his 4 innings of work, walking just 1 and striking out 4. Luis Meza gave up 2 hits and the only run over 3 frames, then Scott Griggs got the final 3 outs. At the plate Tyler Ogle hit a 2-run homer and Jeremy Rathjen also drove in two even though he didn't record a hit. Eric Smith doubled in his return from the DL while Paul Hoenecke had the only multi-hit game with a couple of singles.
Coming up – The Loons play a morning game on Wednesday and will send Jharel Cotton to the mound. The Isotopes will start Angel Castro, the Quakes will use Lindsey Caughel on the bump, and the Lookouts pitcher is TBD.
Minor League Transactions – LoA: Eric Smith was activated from the DL, Dashenko Ricardo was removed from the roster, Alan Garcia was placed on the bereavement list, and Owen Jones was added to the team.
