Adrian Gonzalez scratched for third straight game, might be available to PH

The Dodgers first baseman might be available to pinch hit on Sunday night.

Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was scratched from the starting lineup against the Giants for a third consecutive day on Sunday with neck pain. It has been quite a weekend for Gonzalez.

On Wednesday, Gonzalez said he may have injured his neck in a light collision with the first base umpire against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium.

On Friday, Gonzalez was written into the starting lineup but was ultimately scratched. It was his first game missed as a Dodger after playing in 67 straight contests, dating back to 2012.

On Saturday, Gonzalez was in the lineup again but was also walking around the clubhouse in a soft neck brace, and after pregame workouts it was decided to give him another game off.

Third time was supposed to be a charm on Sunday, as Gonzalez was written into the starting lineup yet again. Gonzalez said specifically it was his trapezius muscle, in his neck and upper back, that is hurting, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

I hope bench coach Trey Hillman has been using pencil or a soft erasable ink when making out these lineup cards. On Sunday, Juan Uribe moves from third base to first base, with Luis Cruz now starting at third.

At least there is this reasonably good news, from Buster Olney at ESPN.
