Hyun-jin Ryu looks to continue Dodgers quality run

Stephen Dunn

Ryu looks for his team-high seventh win on Wednesday night as the Dodgers host the Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium. Dodgers starters have allowed three runs in 14 innings during this series.

The Dodgers may not have the wins to show for it yet, but their starting pitching is rounding into form quite nicely in June. A lot of that has to do with a fully healthy Zack Greinke, but Hyun-jin Ryu is on fire as well. Ryu starts Wednesday night as the Dodgers host the Diamondbacks in the finale of a 10-game homestand.

Dodgers starters went until June 6-7 before getting consecutive starts of at least seven innings this season. Now they have done it two times in a week, with Ryu looking to follow Clayton Kershaw and Greinke with a seven-inning outing of his own on Tuesday.

Ryu has pitched at least 7⅓ innings in each of his last three starts and has pitched fewer than six innings only once in 12 starts this season. He has allowed six runs in his last five starts, going 3-0 with a 1.51 ERA during that span. At Dodger Stadium this season, Ryu is 4-1 with a 1.50 ERA and has averaged exactly seven innings per start, with 39 strikeouts and just eight walks.

The Dodgers as a whole have six quality starts in their last seven games, matching their total from the previous 21 contests. Ryu has nine quality starts in his 12 games, second on the team to Kershaw, with 11 quality starts in 14 games.

They will face second-year pitcher Patrick Corbin, who has been nothing but quality for the Diamondbacks this season. He is 9-0 with a 1.98 ERA, and 11 of his 12 starts have been quality starts. Arizona is undefeated in his 12 starts this season, including a 3-0 win against Kershaw and the Dodgers on Apr. 12 in Phoenix.

Corbin has faced the Dodgers four times, including three starts, in his brief time in the majors, and has allowed just three runs in 20⅓ innings
