Ricky Nolasco rumors: Dodgers 'front runners' for Marlins RHP, per reports

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers, who are also reportedly interested in Cubs' right-hander Matt Garza, aren't alone in their pursuit of Nolasco.

The Dodgers remain in on Marlins pitcher Ricky Nolasco, and one MLB executive told Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports the Dodgers are "the front-runner" for the services of the right-hander. But they aren't alone.

Rosenthal reports that the Padres, Giants, Orioles and Rangers are possible landing spots for Nolasco, who is 4-7 with a 3.68 ERA in 16 starts in the final year of a three-year contract.

Nolasco has due just under $6 million of his $11.5 million salary remaining this season, and Rosenthal reports the Marlins not only want teams to take on all of Nolasco's remaining salary but also a "good" prospect in return.

The Marlins are no stranger to dealing experienced players for prospects, and as Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald noted, Miami almost always receives at least one pitcher in return when dealing an arm.

Buster Olney of ESPN cited a source earlier Thursday that had the Dodgers' chances of landing Nolasco at 70%.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports also noted the Dodgers' talks for Nolasco, and noted that the Dodgers are looking for both a starting pitcher and a reliever, though not necessarily in the same deal.

It is also worth noting that in addition to Nolasco, the Dodgers and Padres are also pursuing Matt Garza of the Cubs, per Rosenthal. Garza struck out 10 while allowing just one run in seven innings in a win over the Brewers on Thursday afternoon.

Nolasco is scheduled to start Friday for the Marlins, but with trade talks active we'll see if he makes that start.
