Carl Crawford, Ted Lilly to begin rehab assignments Sunday in Rancho Cucamonga

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODA

Crawford hasn't played since June 1 with a right hamstring strain, and Ted Lilly has been out since June 4 with a neck sprain.

The Dodgers got one outfielder back on Friday, and one week from now the team might get another one back. Scott Van Slyke was activated from the disabled list before the Dodgers' second game against the Phillies at Dodger Stadium. Fellow outfielder Carl Crawford will start a minor league rehab assignment on Sunday and could be activated from the DL within a week, the team announced today.

Crawford will begin his rehab assignment on Sunday with Class-A Rancho Cuamonga after being sidelined since June 1 with a strained right hamstring. Crawford will serve as the designated hitter with the Quakes for two games, then play two games in the outfield, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

That schedule will give Crawford time for possibly one off day, then he could potentially be activated as the Dodgers open a weekend series in San Francisco against the Giants. Friday is Crawford's 25th game missed while on the DL. He is hitting .301/.358/.470 with five home runs and ninestolen bases, and still leads the team with 32 runs scored.

Joining Crawford on Sunday in Rancho Cucamonga will be Ted Lilly, who will start for the Quakes. Lilly is on the disabled list with a neck sprain, his third DL stint this season. He last pitched on June 4, and is 0-2 with a 5.09 ERA in five starts this season. It is unclear just how many rehab starts Lilly would need before getting activated.
