Everyone was full of smiles after the Dodgers won Yasiel Puig's MLB debut on Monday night, but that hasn't changed manager Don Mattingly's fate, according to the gambling public. The folks at Bovada have listed the Dodgers manager is the most likely MLB manager to be fired first this season.
People can bet on Mattingly as the first to be fired and get 7/4 odds. Angels manager Mike Scioscia is the second-most likely, at 9/4 odds.
The Dodgers are 24-32 and in last place, and their playoff chances have understandably taken a hit. Bovada has the Dodgers at 8/1 odds to win the National League West, down from 7/5 co-favorites in April. The Giants, who were 7/5 co-favorites to win the division with the Dodgers in April, are now 6/5 favorites, with the Diamondbacks close behind at 3/2 odds.
The Dodgers have 15/1 odds to win the NL pennant (down from 9/2 in April) and 33/1 odds to win the World Series (down from 10/1 in April).
A positive for the Dodgers is that Clayton Kershaw, currently 5-3 with a 1.85 ERA and 82 strikeouts, is the favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award, at 4/1 odds. Both Patrick Corbin, who is 9-0 with a 2.06 ERA for Arizona, and Adam Wainwright, who has an absurd 84/6 strikeout-to-walk ratio, are tied for second at 5/1 odds.
