MLB Draft 2013: More on Chris Anderson, Dodgers 1st round pick

Mike Stobe

The Dodgers have drafted a pitcher with their first pick in 10 of the last 11 years.

The Dodgers made their first ever pick out of Jacksonville University on Thursday when they took right-handed pitcher Chris Anderson with their first-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, No. 18 overall. He was rated by Baseball America as the ninth best right-handed pitcher in the draft.

"We’re extremely excited to have selected a player of Chris’ ability level," said Dodger draft head Logan White in a release. "He’s a big physical young man with three quality Major League pitches and a bulldog-competitive makeup to go with it."

Anderson, a 6'4, 225-pound pitcher was 7-5 with a 2.49 ERA in 14 starts for Jacksonville in his junior season in 2012, including three complete games. The 20-year-old struck out 101 in 104⅔ innings and was named to the All Atlantic Sun Conference second team.

Just to avoid any confusion with the basketball player on the Heat, the Dodgers sent out this tweet.

The slot value for the No. 18 pick is $2.1 million, per Baseball America.
