Dodgers vs. Rockies: Zack Greinke vs. Tyler Chatwood

Lisa Blumenfeld

The Dodgers are finally playing consistent baseball, and Zack Greinke hopes to do the same.

Zack Greinke continues to show omens of the long-anticipated turn-around, yet he isn't living up to the Dodgers expectations. Despite Greinke's 7-2 record and four consecutive wins, he strung together consecutive quality starts only once.

Saturday marks another opportunity for Greinke, who is coming off his best start of the year by posting seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Playing against the Rockies hasn't been Greinke's ideal matchup, allowing nine earned runs over 10.1 frames. Regardless of the mediocre numbers, Grienke somehow sports a 1-0 record over two starts against Colorado.

Opposing Greinke for Walt Weiss will be Tyler Chatwood. Normally pitching away from home doesn't go well, but according to the statistics, Chatwood prefers it. Chatwood boasts a 3-1 record and 1.26 ERA on the road, which makes sense because Coors Field always ranks among the best hitters parks.

Regardless of location, Chatwood may be the biggest surprise for the Rockies, going 5-2 with a 2.74 ERA on the season. Chatwood is 1-1 against the Dodgers, with two completely different outings. On July 3rd, Chatwood lasted a mere five innings and surrendered five earned runs. However, back on April 29th against the boys in blue, Chatwood dominated by tallying six scoreless innings.

The core of Don Mattingly's expected lineup loves facing Chatwood: Adrian Gonzalez is batting .364 with one home run, Andre Ethier is hitting .409 with one home run and three RBI and Mark Ellis owns a .400 clip with four RBI.

Conversely, seeing Greinke on the bump has produced mixed results for the heart of the Rockies lineup: Carlos Gonzalez is batting .429 with two home runs and four RBI, Michael Cuddyer is hitting .270 with one home run and eight RBI and Troy Tulowitzki is struggling at .188.

The Dodgers are attempting to knot the season series with the Rockies at six games each.
