Brian Wilson reportedly signs with Dodgers

Contract terms for the former Giants closer are unknown, but multiple reports have Wilson signing with the Dodgers.

Well that didn't take long. Former Giants closer Brian Wilson has reportedly chosen to sign with the Dodgers, per reports from Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, Jim Bowden of ESPN, Bob Nightengale of USA Today and Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Nightengale says the deal is only through the 2013 season. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN says the deal is a guaranteed big league contract.

Wilson, 31, last pitched in a game on April 12, 2012. He had Tommy John surgery later that month and is now nearly 16 months removed from the procedure. Wilson worked out for teams last week at UCLA.

Brown reports that Wilson, who had three offers, will start in the minors. Brown says Wilson will begin at Camelback Ranch, then to Class-A Rancho Cucamonga, and will join the Dodgers in two weeks.

It's not exactly comparable since Carlos Marmol wasn't coming off surgery, but the former Cub was acquired on July 2 and was added to the active roster on July 23, three weeks later after five minor league appearances.

Wilson certainly fits general manager Ned Colletti's penchant for acquiring veteran relief pitchers with closing experience in midseason. Wilson saved 171 games for the Giants, including 163 in four seasons from 2008-2011. In four of the last five seasons Colletti has traded for a relief pitcher in season with at least 50 career saves.

Here are Colletti's midseason relief acquisitions since taking over as general manager:
