Matt Kemp injury: Dodgers CF likely out a few days with shoulder irritation

Manager Don Mattingly said his center fielder would likely avoid the disabled list with AC joint irritation, though Kemp will likely miss a few days.

Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp left Friday's game against the Giants after just two innings, hurting his left shoulder on a swing. Manager Don Mattingly said Kemp will likely miss the remainder of the weekend series at AT&T Park, but for now will avoid the disabled list.

"It sounds like it's good. The fact that it's the AC joint was a lot better than it could have been, on the other side of that," Mattingly told reporters after the Dodgers' 10-2 win over the Giants, as shown on the Prime Ticket broadcast. "It was instant and he got relief. The last time we did this it was only a couple of days and he should be ready to roll."

Kemp was worried after grabbing his left shoulder after a second inning swing, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

The AC joint is not in the same part of the shoulder where Kemp had surgery in October, a procedure to repair a torn labrum. Mattingly said Kemp also had an issue with the AC joint earlier in the season.

"We knew he had the AC stuff earlier in the year, and it sounds like something you could deal with over the course of the year," Matingly said. "It's something that gets sore but with what (the medical department does) it can go away. It hasn't affected anything."

What the medical department did on Friday for Kemp is administer a cortisone shot, per Plunkett.

The Dodgers face left-handed Madison Bumgarner on Saturday afternoon, and right-handed Chad Gaudin on Sunday.
