Ricky Nolasco trade: Steve Ames excited for new opportunity

Christian Petersen

After being recently traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers, right-handed pitcher Steve Ames is excited for his new opportunity with the Miami Marlins.

All trades create new doors for players to walk through, and it doesn't impact anyone more than those directly involved in the trade. Steve Ames, who the Dodgers have recently traded to the Marlins, is the latest player to experience the excitement of a new opportunity.

In 30 appearances with the Dodgers' Class Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque, Ames posted a 3.67 ERA across 34 1/3 innings of work while striking out 7.6 batters per 9 innings in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

"[Steve] Ames bled Dodger blue and thanks all of Dodger Nation who supported him. At the same time, he is excited about becoming a Marlin and hopefully getting a call up [to the major leagues] soon," Ames' agent, Joshua Kusnick, told me. More from Kusnick:

What an amazing opportunity Steven has coming to Florida. He's good friends with [Nathan] Eovaldi and should be up with the big league club some time before September. He's a blue collar pitcher with great command and velocity. He's run it up to 95 MPH and is a ground ball machine. He has closer makeup and I know it had to be hard for the Dodgers to part with an arm as electric as his.

Ames has been dealt by the Dodgers to the Marlins as part of the trade that netted Los Angeles right-handed starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco. The Dodgers are also trading minor league right-handed pitchers Josh Wall and Angel Sanchez in the trade, while also acquiring International bonus slot No. 96 from Miami.
