Dodgers vs. Rays preview: Zack Greinke vs. Roberto Hernandez

Harry How

The Dodgers' 35-8 mark is tied with the 1953 Brooklyn team for the best 43-game stretch for the franchise since 1900.

A little more than 13 hours after their most thrilling comeback win of the season, the Dodgers look to continue their amazing run on Saturday against the Rays. Zack Greinke is on the mound for a Dodgers team in search of its fourth straight victory.

Not only was the Dodgers' 7-6 comeback win their 11th straight one-run victory, to set a new franchise record, but it was also just the fourth time since the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958 that they won a game trailing by six runs in the seventh inning or later.

The last such win came on Aug. 11, 1999 at Montreal, when the Dodgers won 9-7 after trailing 6-0 entering the seventh inning. They also beat the Astros 9-8 in Houston on May 9, 1994 after trailing 8-2 entering the eighth inning. The first such win in Los Angeles came on July 22, 1970, when the Dodgers trailed 10-4 in the middle of the seventh frame only to beat the Expos 12-10.

The Dodgers are 18-3 since the All-Star break, and a season-high 15 games over .500 (65-50) after the win on Friday.

Greinke is 5-1 with a 2.56 ERA in nine home starts this season, with 49 strikeouts and just nine walks in 59⅔ innings. He has allowed nine runs in his last six starts overall, and the Dodgers have won eight of his last nine mound appearances.

With David Price starting Friday, Greinke Saturday and Clayton Kershaw on Sunday, Dodger Stadium will see a Cy Young Award winner take the mound in all three games of the series against Tampa Bay.

After getting a rest in the series opener, the trio of Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier and A.J. Ellis return to the starting lineup on Saturday, facing Roberto Hernandez of the Rays. Yasiel Puig after an adventurous night in center field moves back to right field on Saturday, batting cleanup. Per Tampa Bay, Friday night with Puig and Wil Myers was the first game with two rookies batting cleanup and playing center field since July 3, 1946, when Ralph Kiner of the Pirates faced off with Marv Rickert of the Cubs in the second game of a doubleheader at Wrigley Field.

Puig is hitting .483 (14-for-29) on his current eight-game hitting streak, and since his June 3 call-up Puig leads MLB in batting average (.379), runs scored (44), hits (85) and total bases (135). Puig is also first in the National League during that span with a .440 on-base percentage.
