Dodgers named a finalist for Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero, per report

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

For the first time in a couple weeks, rumors about Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero have surfaced.

If the reports are true and the Dodgers prevail, Yasiel Puig might not be the only Cuban in LA's lineup for a long time.

Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN in Minneapolis has reported the market for Cuban shortstop Alexander Guerrero is down to four teams.

Shortly after Wolfson reported the news, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports' said the Red Sox aren't a finalist for Guerrero.

Dionisio Soldevila of ESPNDeportes.com reported back on July 23rd that Los Angeles had signed Guerrero to a seven year $32 million dollar deal.

The report ended up being false and for the first time in nearly a month, new information is being reported about multiple teams vying for the infielder's services.

Guerrero hit over .300 in three seasons in Cuba. He also hit 60 home runs in 886 at bats.

If the Dodgers' signed Guerrero, it is unclear if they would bring him up this season. When Soldevila originally reported the seven year $32 million dollar deal, rumors spread that Guerrero would spend a couple weeks in the minors before being called up to start at second base for Los Angeles.

The Dodgers' system isn't full of many potential game-changing infielders. Corey Seager currently plays shortstop in the minors, but could move to third base in the future. If Los Angeles signs Guerrero and re-signs Hanley Ramirez, the two could be the Dodgers' combination up the middle for a long time.
