Dodgers-Marlins: 35-year-old Chris Capuano vs. 22-year-old Jacob Turner

Chris Humphreys-US PRESSWIRE

Chris Capuano strives for consistency while Jacob Turner continues to improve.

The Dodgers may have forgotten the feeling of losing, yet are on the brink of losing three straight. The boys in blue haven't been on the wrong side of the scoreboard three consecutive times since June 8-10.

In order to avoid another defeat, the hitting must overcome Jacob Turner.

During the Marlins rebuilding process, management wanted to build around stars of the future. Tuesday's starter, Turner, could be one of their key pieces to the puzzle. Turner comes in sporting a deceiving 3-4 record with a solid 2.89 ERA in 14 starts.

Prior to 2013, the former Detroit Tigers first round pick only accumulated 13 starts. Turner clearly feels more comfortable pitching at home, tallying a 3-0 record with a minuscule 2.34 ERA.

At 6'5 and 210 pounds, the 22-year-old right-hander is an imposing figure on the mound. Scouts say Turner throws around 90-93 MPH fastballs and features plus-pitches in his curveball and change up. In addition, Turner added the cutter to his arsenal during spring training.

Meanwhile, Chris Capuano gets the ball for the Dodgers. Capuano continues to epitomize one hectic roller coaster ride. Sometimes Capuano dices opponents like 2012, and sometimes Capuano looks like an average fifth starter.

Throughout the ups and downs, Capuano owns a 4-6 record and 4.66 ERA. Capuano needs to turn it around, otherwise manager Don Mattingly may re-insert Stephen Fife into the rotation. Over Capuano's last two starts, he has given up nine earned runs in 9.1 frames.

However, the Dodgers have won the past six games Capuano started. He defeated the Marlins on May 12, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing one run and fanning seven.

The spotlight will also shine bright on Yasiel Puig. The Cuban star's average dropped to .351, his lowest since debuting for the Dodgers on June 3. Puig is 0-for-9 over the last two games and 3-for-23 over the previous five contests.
