Don Mattingly holds closed door meeting with Yasiel Puig and fines him, per reports

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

After he was the last player to arrive to the stadium, Yasiel Puig met with manager Don Mattingly for a couple minutes and was given a fine.

Over the last couple days, Yasiel Puig has been under criticism from multiple journalists for allegedly yelling "F*** the media", missing cutoff men, and multiple baseball mistakes. Today, Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly took Puig out of the lineup for the second game of the series in Miami and fined him.

After Puig was left out of the lineup earlier this afternoon, he was the last Dodger to arrive to the stadium (but the two aren't related). The Cuban outfielder then met with Mattingly for nearly 10 minutes with an interpreter according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. Plunkett chronicled the entire chain of events on his twitter account.

Ken Gurnick, the Dodgers' beat reporter for MLB.com, later tweeted the following:

As for the size of the fine, no number has been mentioned although Plunkett did add the following regarding the size of the fine:

Plunkett also added that Puig is not staying at the team's hotel. Instead, he is staying with his family at his home in Miami.

Over the current road trip (four games), Puig is 2-17 with one double, no RBIs, no runs scored, and four strike outs. His batting averaged has also dropped from .368 to .351.

Jon Morosi of Fox Sports wrote a piece yesterday about Puig's fundamentals and how they could hurt Los Angeles in October.

ESPN's Mark Saxon wrote earlier today about Puig's emotions. The outfielder had an argument with the home plate umpire last night and seemed frustrated the rest of the night.

But Puig's "punishment" seems to be a one day thing according to Anthony Jackson of Dodger Scribe.
