2013 Dodgers Playoffs Roster Prediction

With the Dodgers adding the likes of Carlos Marmol, Edinson Volquez, Brian Wilson and now, most recently, Michael Young, it's clear that the Boys in Blue are gearing for a run for the playoffs come October. It will be interesting how the Ned Coletti and the Dodgers determine which 25 players will make the playoff roster for

Here's the no-brainer list:

1. Clayton Kershaw - SP

2. Zach Greinke - SP

3. Hyun Jin Ryu - SP

4. Ricky Nolasco - SP

5. Kenley Jansen - RP

6. Paco Rodriguez - RP

7. Ronald Belisario - RP

8. JP Howell - RP

9. Brian Wilson - RP

10. Adrian Gonzalez - 1B

11. Mark Ellis - 2B

12. Hanley Ramirez - SS

13. Juan Uribe - 3B

14. Yasiel Puig - RF

15. Andre Ethier - CF/RF

16. Carl Crawford - LF

17. AJ Ellis - C

18. Skip Schumaker - IF/OF

19. Matt Kemp - CF

20. Tim Federowicz - C

21. Nick Punto - IF

22. Michael Young - IF

Candidates for the Final 3 Spots:

1. Brandon League

2. Carlos Marmol

3. Scott Van Slyke

4. Jose Dominguez

5. Chris Capuano

6. Dee Gordon

7. Chris Withrow

8. Jerry Hairston

9. Edinson Volquez

Here's what I think will happen:

23. Carlos Marmol - For the month of August, Marmol ended with a 0.00 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a .152 BAA in 11 games pitched. If that's not making a solid case for being on the postseason roster, I don't know what is.

24. Scott Withrow - Withrow, League, Dominguez, Capuano and Volquez will all be auditioning for the final spot or two in the bullpen this upcoming month but it appears as if Withrow should win out given his effectiveness since he's been called up. It could well be the case, though, that Brandon League has a better showing in September and since he's the "veteran" who is signed for $22+ million, it would be hard to keep him off the roster.

25. Dee Gordon - Yes, Scott Van Slyke's OPS of 0.826 is hard to ignore and Jerry Hairston is such a "gritty" veteran (who has a putrid .503 OPS on the year by the way). But Dee Gordon is fast. Dude can run. And for that final 25th man of the playoff roster, having a Dee Gordon can be the difference between advancing to the next round or going home. Just ask Chone Figgins. Or Dave Roberts.
