Dodgers to hold first LGBT night on September 27

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Friday night game against the Rockies opens a three-game series at Dodger Stadium, the final homestand of the season for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers announced on Friday that they would hold an LGBT Night Out on Friday, Sept. 27 against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium. It is the first such event for the Dodgers for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons.

"We welcome all fans to Dodger Stadium throughout each season," said Dodgers executive VP and chief marketing officer Lon Rosen. "We are especially proud to welcome and recognize the LGBT community of Los Angeles, an integral part of the city and of the Dodgers community."

The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles will perform the national anthem before the game and a "celebrity" will throw out a first pitch, though that person hasn't yet been announced. The night is presented in partnership with Flip Events.

"The Dodgers have been standing on the right side of history from the days of Jackie Robinson through today," said Tom Whitman, senior VP of Flip. "LGBT Night Out on September 27 will be an amazing night for baseball fans, for the LGBT community and everyone who is true blue."

It has been a long time since 2000 when, two ownership groups ago, the Dodgers issued a public apology to fans Danielle Goldey and Meredith Kott, a lesbian couple ejected from their seats at Dodger Stadium for kissing each other.

Tickets can be purchased via Dodgers.com/out with the promo code "out."
