NL playoffs standings: Dodgers might start NLDS on road

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers hold a tiebreaker advantage over the Cardinals and Pirates, but not with the Braves and Reds.

The Dodgers are making it harder and harder on themselves to have home field advantage in the first round of the postseason. Wednesday's loss, the 10th in the last 14 games for the Dodgers, dropped them two games behind the National League Central-leading Cardinals for the No. 2 seed in the NL, with just 10 days to play.

Here are one-sentence recaps of Wednesday's relevant action.

Diamondbacks 9, Dodgers 4: Los Angeles is 0-1 in games in which they have a shot to clinch the National League West, thanks to a short and ineffective outing by spot starter Stephen Fife.

Cardinals 4, Rockies 3: Adam Wainwright struck out eight at Coors Field and went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs batted in for St. Louis, who now has a two-game lead in the division.

Padres 3, Pirates 2: It was melancholy on the Monongahela as Mark Melancon allowed two runs in the ninth inning to blow the save for Pittsburgh.

Reds 6, Astros 5 (13): Jay Bruce drove in three runs on three hits and speedster Billy Hamilton went 3-for-4 with a double and four stolen bases in his first start, pulling Cincinnati to within one game of Pittsburgh for the top wild card position.

Braves 5, Nationals 2: Home runs by Justin Upton and Dan Uggla lowered Atlanta's magic number to clinch the NL East to two, and strengthened their hold on the overall No. 1 seed in the NL.

Here is a look at relevant games on Thursday, including USC vs. UCLA on the mound in Pittsburgh (all times PT):
