Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODA

Los Angeles is a game back of St. Louis for second place and two and a half back of Atlanta for first place in the National League playoff standings.

The Dodgers picked up a game on the Cardinals last night, but are still two and a half back of the Braves. Los Angeles and St. Louis each have six games left while Atlanta has seven.

Here is a recap of Sunday's relevant action:

Dodgers 1, Padres 0: Michael Young's double to knock in Adrian Gonzalez was the difference in the game. Zack Greinke, J.P. Howell, Chris Withrow, and Kenley Jansen combined to throw a complete game shutout. The worst part of the game for LA was that seven of the last nine Dodgers to step up to the plate struck out.

Reds 11, Pirates 3: Cincinnati's win means the two teams are now tied for the number one Wild Card spot in the National League. Jay Bruce went 2-5 with four RBIs while Todd Frazier was 1-5 with a two-run homer.

Marlins 4, Nationals 2: In the first game of a double-header, Giancarlo Stanton went 1-4 with a two-run homer, his 24th this season. Miami closer Steve Cishek shut the door in the ninth to earn his 32nd save of the season.

Nationals 5, Marlins 4: Denard Span led Washington to a victory in the second game of a double-header. Span went 2-5 with three RBIs. Stephen Strasburg gave up three earned runs over six innings and struck out six.

Braves 5, Cubs 2: Andrelton Simmons had a big day at the plate. The shortstop went 2-4 with two homers and three RBIs. Craig Kimbrel came into the game in the ninth and earned his 49th save of the season. Kimbrel gave up two hits, but still managed to strike out the side.

Brewers 6, Cardinals 4: St. Louis' starter Joe Kelly had a rough day on the mound. The righty gave up six runs (three earned) over seven innings. The Cardinals made a late comeback attempt in the ninth inning, but fell short. Matt Adams struck out looking with runners on first and second in the top of the ninth.
