MLB playoff standings 2013: Dodgers win, but so do Braves, Cardinals

Dilip Vishwanat

Four of the five National League playoff teams won on Tuesday, including the Dodgers, with Cincinnati suffering the only loss.

The three division leaders in the National League all won on Monday, so while the Dodgers' third consecutive win kept pace it knocked another day off the schedule in their quest for home field advantage in at least one round of the playoffs.

Here are Tuesday's relevant results.

Dodgers 2, Giants 1: In a game that featured three home runs the Dodgers hit two of them to make a winner out of Hyun-jin Ryu.

Cardinals 2, Nationals 0: Michael Wacha came within one out of the third no-hitter in MLB this season, lowering the magic number for St. Louis to clinch the division to three.

Pirates 8, Cubs 2: Pittsburgh hit five doubles and a home run, and rookie Gerrit Cole pitched six innings to win his 10th game of the season.

Mets 4, Reds 2: A three-run home run by Daniel Murphy keyed a four-run second inning that held up for New York. The loss dropped Cincinnati into the second wild card position, a game back of Pittsburgh.

Braves 3, Brewers 2: Andrelton Simmons hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning to keep Atlanta in the top spot in the National League.

The Dodgers' magic number to top the Braves is eight, with 10 outcomes remaining (five games for both teams); the Dodgers' tragic number, which would clinch Atlanta having a higher seed, is three.

The Dodgers remain 1½ games behind the Cardinals for the No. 2 seed, and hold the tie-breaker over St. Louis. The Dodgers' magic number to have a higher seed than St. Louis is six; their tragic number is four, with nine outcomes left.

Here is a look at relevant games on Wednesday, including three daytime starts (all times PT):
