Dodgers community caravan starts Monday

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers will conduct their 11th annual community caravan next week, with several former Dodgers performing community service in and around Los Angeles. The caravan runs Monday to Friday. Here are the details:


From 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT, former Dodgers Ron Cey, Kenny Landreaux, Matt Luke and Dennis Powell will visit Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. In addition, Clear Channel Radio will be broadcasting live a radiothon from Children's Hospital, with Eric Karros as co-host.


From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tommy Davis, Sweet Lou Johnson, Tim Leary and Derrel Thomas will visit Moffitt Elementary School in Norwalk, playing with students during recess followed by a school-wide assembly.

From 3:30 to 7:15 p.m., the quartet will shift to Dodger Stadium, where they will host high school students from the McBride Teen Center for an afternoon skate on the ice rink, which will still be up a few days after the Kings-Ducks NHL outdoor game on Saturday.


From 8 to 10:30 a.m., Davis, Johnson, Lee Lacy, Wes Parker and Bill Russell will be at West Adams Preparatory High School in Los Angeles, joining students in culinary class for food that will be served during an assembly recognizing high academic achievements of certain students. During the ceremony, the Dodgers will hand out the awards to the students.

From 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the group will head over to L.A. Universal Preschool, reading to children and assisting in an art project with the kids.


From 10 a.m. to noon, Billy Ashley, Cey, Al Ferrara, Reggie Smith and Steve Yeager will visit Operation Gratitude in Van Nuys, helping to assemble care packages to be sent to deployed military members around the world.


Details for the events of the final day of the caravan haven't yet been released.
